Can I qualify for an unemployment insurance extension? I was laid off about 5 years ago in Colorado. I received 26 weeks unemployment insurance but no extension as there was none then. I was laid off at 50, am now 55 and have not been able to find employment since though I have looked extensively. I have since moved to California. I hear there are now 2 extensions (of which I received none). Can I get these extensions now? Being unemployed I can sure use the funds. I don't think its fair that others are getting these long extensions while I did not.

fatsausage replied: "I have no personal experience - but I have heard that you can apply on line."

Roger M replied: "The extension are only for those people that have been on unemployment and just ran out. If you have been unemployed for 5 years, then you are not eligible."

When to file for unemployment insurance benefit extension I? My unemployment insurance benefit will run out in a month (late March). Will I get some notice from CA about the extension before it runs out? If not, should I file online before or after my regular/current insurance benefit runs out? Thank you.

Abby replied: "They will automatically see if you're eligible, and if you are, they will send you a notice in the mail saying your benefits will continue for anoter 6 months. I'm sure if you aren't eligible they will also let you know that you don't qualify for exteded benefits. This jsut happened to me, so i know."

Jessica M replied: "If you have already used the first 2 extensions then you will not be eligible for anything further. This stimulus package was not an additional extension, it only extended the qualifying date for the old extensions to the end of the year. Very confusing and not portrayed correctly in the media."

VIRGINIA P replied: "It looks like a non easy cracking nut, looking around here ,you may find something useful for you."

beer234 replied: "Because you cannot rely on the government to contact you, I would start now contacting the California EDD who is in charge of your unemployment benefits. You can ask directly about your extension so they do not miss it by failing to contact you. Believe me when it comes to unemployment benefits you want to be proactive to prevent any gaps in your claim."

How do I file a California Unemployment Insurance Extension? I cant get through to anyone on the phone at EDD about my UI benefits and my benefits are running out. Do they automatically continue sending me benefits (claim forms) or do I fill out another claim form? What do I do? My claim form says that I have enough benefits for one more week. Will there be another waiting period before i start receiving the extension benefits?

MsNiteLite722 replied: "I was told t keep putting in my claim every week and the extensions will kick in. I hope one of these will be of some help to you."

Dale K replied: "You will be able to get extended benefits through the federal governments emergency unemployment. You will have to wait until your get your final check. Then( unless the EDD has sent you a letter stating that you are eligible for extended benefits), refile your claim just like you did the first time. You will be getting a letter stating your eligibility for the funds. There will be no interview necessary like the first time since that established your eligibility and there will be no waiting period like the first time. The reason I say to go ahead and refile after you get your last check ( unless you are contacted by EDD ) is because some people did not get the eligibility letter from EDD, even though they were eligible."

Kentucky unemployment insurance extension? I live in Louisiana but worked in Kentucky and that is where my unemployment insurance comes from. My question is this, my claim runs out this week (April 18 09) and I am wondering if I can get extended benefits from Kentucky. I am concerned because I am a resident of Louisiana but all wages for the last 2 years was in Kentucky. Does that matter? Must I live in Kentucky to receive extended benefits?

Daniel A replied: "uhhhhh"

faunce24 replied: "yea they should atomatically extend it but i would call just to be sure"

Tom Z replied: "Breaking News: By Stephenie Steitzer • • April 17, 2009 FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The U.S. Department of Labor reversed course yesterday, saying Gov. Steve Beshear can use his executive powers to help extend benefits for jobless Kentuckians who exhausted their state and federal unemployment aid this week. Beshear spokesman Jay Blanton said the administration is working on an emergency regulation that the governor could sign as early as today and would take effect immediately. "We have received verbal approval for an emergency regulation that would allow us to move forward with the extended unemployment benefits allowed for in the federal stimulus," Blanton said. Before yesterday's decision, unemployed workers in Kentucky were in jeopardy of missing out on 13 weeks of extended benefits, paid with federal stimulus money, because the state General Assembly had failed to change a state law during its most recent session."

How do you obtain a Unemployment Insurance extension? California resident? My insurance ran out i keep trying to contact EDD i call their 1800 number, they tell me to call back after 5pm or before 8am, and when i do call at that time they tell me there close, i went to there website, same thing they tell me to call the 1800 number

George Bush replied: "Just go barged in their office and tell them out loud about your problem.. then they will be scared at you so they will fix your insurance in a hurry."

Dale K replied: "The phone lines at EDD are impossible to get through. With the unemployment rate now at over 10% it's going to get worse. The best thing for you to do, which I did, was to contact them through the ED site here.. I got an answer to my question the next day. If all you are doing however is filing for an extension all you need to do is reapply as you did the first time you applied for UI. They will not need to re-interview you again as that other person said, as the interview was to determine your original claim. I know because I got the extension by just re-filing the same information I did the first time."

mouse3454 replied: "To contact EDD you need to email them through their website and give all your info and phone number and they will call you. This is in case you already have a claim open and you have not heard from them after 10 days. If you need an extension you need to apply again online at their website just like you did the first time . They will interview you over the phone and tell you if you will get that extension and how much you will get."

California EDD Unemployment insurance Extension? I just heard President Bush signed a bill this morning to extend unemployment benefits for the nation by an additional 13 weeks and 13 more in states with very high unemployment like here in California (6.2%). I have a friend who's first 26 weeks of benefits were exhausted. Does anyone know how the process works to get the "Federal Extension" with EDD? Do you have to ask for it or is it automatic? Thank you.

mirrorah replied: "Sorry dude...as far as I know it hasn't happened yet. What's happened is the house ways and means committee has created a bill to extend unemployment. They want to tack it onto a big bill regarding troop spending and Bush is vowing to veto it if they do. (Asshole!) So, they may just include it as part of another bill. They are busy preparing a second economic stimulus package and may include it as part of their package. They haven't decided yet...but they are definitely going forward with it. The Republicans are being very tough about it and saying that they will not vote to approve this, but I speculate that this is bluff....that evenutally it will get passed sometime soon. We will probably know more next tuesday. Hope this helps Oh....and as for California....The Guv, Arnold is lobbying to get this passed. There is an an article about it wondering why it took him so long to figure out what was going on. Hopefully, this means that there will be other repubs that feel the same way."

Unemployment Insurance Extension stalled again? Now that Kyl and Hatch have once again denied the working people in this country their unemployment insurance, and alienated the whole working class, does the GOP really think there will be any point in running for anything?

And the home of the Brave! replied: "No, it is a Democrat Washington, and you're still digging to throw dirt on Republicans?"

Thomas D replied: "How have they denied anything? Your employer pays into the system at a certain rate assuming a certain payout for you if you are laid off, that is how insurance works. Call it welfare if it goes over that amount because it is just another government handout."

gov. of, by and for the sheep replied: "But the bank bailouts and the ceo's bonuses were made in a timely manner weren't they. How does it feel to be a peon and then be expected to pay their bills? AMERICA......you got to love......what a deal....."

bluechristy replied: "The GOP sold the USA out during the Bush administration and we are now really starting to feel the effects . Cons are so dumb they won't know what hit them and will blame it all on the Democrats in Congress or Obama .The Democrats in congress will care but also go mental and have a nervous break down"

Unemployment Insurance extension in CA? Ok so tomorrow I send in my last form for my regular Unemployment Insurance. Its Only for one week though. So how does the extension work? Do I re-file? How long does it take to get it all up to date again? Is there a waiting period? Thanks in advance.

grand lake bum replied: "nope nodda nary"

Dale K replied: "You should not have to re-file for the Federal UI extension benefits. The EDD should be contacting you regarding your eligibility shortly after you get your last check. If you have not received your eligibility letter within a week of your last check, go ahead and refile like you did the first time. ( Some people including myself had to refile due to the backlog at EDD ) You will have no waiting period like the first time with UI, and there should be no lapse in you getting your payments. More info from EDD here..."

Is there an extension for Illinois unemployment Insurance after the 6 months are up? I was laid off and started on unemployment benefits. I looked for work but I believe I was discriminated because I was pregnant since no one would hire me. Now last month in July 07 my benefits were exhausted and I no longer receive benefits. I had a baby boy on July 15th and am ready to look for work once again hoping for better luck this time around. I was wondering if there is any extension or anything of any kind in the insurance to help me out right now until I can find something. If anyone knows something please I would really appreciate it.

mbrcatz17 replied: "Not at this time, sorry. In the past, Congress has passed Federal Extensions . . . but there isn't an active one right now."
